Tomorrow! The AGG, Silence, and the Guelph Black Heritage Society present The Crossings Project – Exile, Exodus, and Transformation on Saturday, May 26 from 7-10 pm. The Crossings Project acknowledges the millions of Africans who were abducted and enslaved during the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the traces and lineages of this history in the Guelph area. The program begins at Silence and ends at Guelph Black Heritage Society’s Heritage Hall, with a street parade between the two venues on Essex Street – the neighbourhood that became home to many Black families and individuals who came to Guelph out of slavery in Canada and the United States only to be displaced once again by the descendants, communities, and cultures of European descent that had first enslaved them. A collaborative, participatory project featuring music, performance, story-telling, and history developed by and for the community. Tickets to the performances at Silence and GBHS Heritage Hall are limited, activities along Essex Street are free and open to all.
