The public will get a chance to take a closer look at the brightly coloured blooms of the University of Guelph’s Ornamental Trial Garden at the annual open house on Friday and Saturday.
The gardens, located at the entrance to the Guelph Turfgrass Institute on Victoria Road, feature 1,400 square metres of growing space where researchers test plants and flowers to see which ones grow higher and fuller, bloom quicker, stand up to the southwestern Ontario climate, and resist common plant diseases.
At this year’s open house, people will be able to see next year’s annuals and perennials, vote on their favourites, and test some new container-grown vegetables.
